How we can help with Depression at The Good Mood Clinic?
One of our clinical priorities is to help you understand and develop a practical formulation for your depression and your individual risk factors, so you can reduce your risk of future episodes.
We place a large value upon empowering YOU and giving YOU a framework around which to understand your unique psychological vulnerabilities or schemas. Once you work on these vulnerabilities and make changes at the root cause of your problem, you can experience a new-found freedom and much greater control over your emotional life. We don’t believe in ‘lost causes’ or putting people into the ‘too hard basket’. No one should fall into and stay in these categories. We stand behind the treatments we offer because we have witnessed so many of our clients literally gain their lives back with Schema Therapy. It gives you what so many other interventions do not – a deep understanding of why you are depressed in the first place. It also provides you with the proven methods to get you out of the pit of your depression and the cycle of your recurrent episodes.
Our approach to Depression – we’re interested in helping the whole person, not just their symptoms
HOW?
Firstly, we assist you in gaining the skills needed to understand your emotions without fearing them and try to instill a sense of optimism and hope for the future. Interventions typically include mindfulness training; relaxation training, cognitive restructuring and behavioural activation.
Secondly, we offer you the option to explore your personal vulnerabilities further with a more in depth and change-sustaining therapy. Schema therapy and schema mode therapy is a speciality of our practice and we use it because it is highly beneficial for those people with so called “treatment resistant” depression; chronic depression; and other complex cases where difficult personality features dominate. It also suits anyone with longstanding negative patterns, early trauma or difficult relationship histories.
We look forward to working together to provide you with the best possible psychological care & support.
