Claire Hurwitz
Clinical Psychologist
B.A.(Psych), B.Psych(Hons), M.Psych(Clinical)
I would describe myself as a warm, empathic, and understanding Psychologist with a passion for providing client-centered care within a safe and supportive environment.
I have experience working with individuals experiencing various mental health difficulties in a variety of clinical settings, including private practice, in-patient hospital, schools, and university clinics.
I use a holistic approach to help clients achieve their goals and make long-term, lasting changes in their lives. I endeavour to facilitate a process with the client to help them develop insight into their presenting difficulties, which typically involves exploring past experiences and the emotions, thoughts, and beliefs associated with such experiences. Treatment also incorporates behavioural strategies where appropriate to assist the client’s journey to make positive and workable changes in their daily lives.
I draw from a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Positive Psychology, Mindfulness-based therapies, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
My areas of clinical expertise and specific interest include:
- anxiety
- depression
- relationship and interpersonal difficulties
- perfectionism
- self-esteem issues; and
- stress
